Welcome Back to School – Brookeland ISD

Fall 2019

We are off to a great start to our new school year in Brookeland ISD. Our faculty, students, parents, and community members are all valuable contributors to our success. We are looking forward to our daily work as a team. Overseeing operations at the campus level are our administrators – Principal, Charlotte Odom; Counselor, Stacy Gillis; and Assistant Principal, Troy Carpenter.

In spite of the heavy rainfall our region has experienced over the last year, our district is making strides on our construction of a new Pre K – 3rd Grade building. The building will provide a common corridor entry for students, with connecting hallways for our High School, 4th / 5th Grade building, and Pre K – 3rd Grade classrooms. In addition, the new wing will have offices for our Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselor, Nurse, Campus Secretary, and PEIMS Clerk.

In continuing the construction process, we finished all underground and foundation work, with new construction scheduled to begin this fall. The new facility along with a new front parking lot should be completed by the end of school this year, ready for use by the beginning of school next August. Our building project will be fully funded with money available in our district fund balance, therefore not requiring district voters to pass a bond package or a Tax Rate Election for the new facility.

Due to the construction project, last year we relocated all of our Pre K – 3rd Grade classrooms to other areas on campus, forcing several classrooms to be moved. Our designated bus loading / unloading areas will remain the same as in past years, both before and during new building construction. Fencing off the front parking lot forced us to use an alternate plan for parents dropping students off before school, picking students up after school, and visitor / faculty parking during school. We will continue our procedures from last year for student drop off in the mornings and pick up in the afternoons, circling around in a single line at the new gym. For the safety of our students, faculty, and community members on campus each day, please follow our student drop off and pick up procedures at the new gym.

In the newest academic accountability system provided by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), this past year our district received an overall score of 89 (B), one of the highest scoring districts in Region 5. Our campuses received Distinction Designations from TEA for outstanding academic achievement. Brookeland Elementary was recognized for a Distinction Designation in Science. Brookeland High School was recognized for Distinction Designations in Social Studies and Closing Performance Gaps. Congratulations to our faculty and students on these exceptional accomplishments.

Our district is well prepared to meet the needs of all students for the near and foreseeable future. We will face unique challenges, with the new building construction being completed this year. In addition, the district will continue to review our daily procedures, developing additional safety and security upgrades to benefit our students and faculty.

We look forward to another year of educational excellence in Brookeland – please feel free to contact us or stop by for a visit.
