Hello, WILDCATS!!!

All students will be receiving assignments through Google Classroom. If you work better on paper, send me an email and I will print a hard copy for you.

We are going to be flexible this year. All this is new to most of us. We will show each other grace quite often.

Let's work together to make 2020-2021 a great school year!!

Weekly Agendas:

Blank Teacher

My name is Latrica Sutton. This is my sixth year teaching Math to students at Brookeland ISD, but my eleventh year in education. It is an honor to be here! Currently, I teach 8th grade Math, Algebra I, and Geometry.

Sharing my love of Math with young people is pure joy for me. I try to fit multiple learning styles and present concepts in a variety of ways.

After graduating from SFASU with a Social Work degree in 2000, I realized that my heart was with young people. I returned to complete my alternate certification in Mathematics in 2007. With the exception of a three year sabbatical, where I was the primary caretaker for a heart transplant recipient, I've enjoyed every second of teaching.

I look forward to spending this school year with your child and hope that they take away both Math concepts and valuable life lessons!

My conference time will also serve as Office Hours for remote learners.

Information Regarding Graphing Calculators

Each subject that I teach, includes extensive instruction in the use of graphing calculators. Brookeland ISD will make a calculator available to each student during school hours (either through issue or by use of a class set). For the grade levels that I teach, we use TI-84 calculators. These calculators are not just allowed, but are encouraged, to be used on standardized tests and exams. Being open to learning the functions of the calculator could be essential to the success of each student. Please encourage students to pay attention to the calculator instructions and to practice using these skills when possible.

Make-up Policy

In the event that a student is absent, make up work will be required. All work will be available in Google Classroom and  the student has the same amount of days to return the make-up work as the student was absent. For test grades, exams made be taken before school or after school during the next five school days following the student's return to school.

The staff of Brookeland ISD believes that ALL students can learn.  We believe that our school’s purpose is to educate all students to high levels of academic performance while fostering positive growth in social/emotional behaviors and attitudes.  We accept the responsibility to teach all students in a challenging, meaningful way that allows each child to become a literate, contributing adult.  Brookeland ISD is a center for sound learning, academic discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom through advanced course offerings, high academic standards and aggressive, innovative instruction.  The students of Brookeland ISD will excel and compete academically with any students in the country.
